We help to inspire young people to pursue careers within the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
BMT Hi-Q Sigma inspire Hayesfield students to race towards a STEM career!
Our consultants Colin Higginson and Simon Harrison recently visited Hayesfield School in Bath to talk to students about BMT's involvement with Bloodhound SSC and the attempt to break the land speed record. The aim of the talk was to encourage Hayesfield's GCSE and A level students to continue their studies in STEM subjects, and highlight the benefits of a career in engineering. As well as discussing how BMT Hi-Q Sigma have been working with the Bloodhound engineers and designers to develop the project schedule, Colin and Simon also outlined their own career paths and backgrounds in engineering.
Katie Pennicott, Teacher of Physics at Hayesfield, commented:
"The talk was fantastic, and Colin and Simon did a great job of enthusing about the Bloodhound car, as well as talking about their routes into engineering. It is really good for students to hear about alternative approaches to careers, as they tend to only think about the "A levels/university" route, without considering other possibilities."
BMT win STEM Organisation of the Year award
We are delighted to have been awarded the title of STEM Organisation of the Year for promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects in the South West. This award is shared with our fellow Bath-based BMT companies, BMT Defence Services and BMT Isis.
BMT's STEM Ambassadors help to enthuse young people about STEM subjects and careers through activities taking place in schools. The overarching aim of ambassador involvement is to help fill the UK’s skills gap in STEM subjects by sharing expertise with students to get them interested in the subjects to a level that they might then consider further study and careers in these areas.
